The legendary band MERCYFUL FATE is the third headliner for HILLS OF ROCK 2022. The festival will take place on July 21, 22 & 23 at Plovdiv’s Rowing Canal and MERCYFUL FATE will smash the stage on July 22.
MERCYFUL FATE was founded in 1981 in Denmark by King Diamond & Hank Shermann. The band plays classic heavy metal with some progressive and 70s hard rock elements, combined with their epic falsetto & satanic lyrics. Adding the corpse paint – King Diamond’s black and white makeup, would make MERCYFUL FATE one of the most influential cult bands not only to loyal fans but to artists like Slayer, Metallica & Death. In 2022, the band will play on several well-chosen concerts, and we are happy to share that Hills of Rock’s stage is among these.

The new and reaffirmed names for next year also include the aggressive German metal / det core machine HEAVEN SHALL BURN, the extreme Polish metals BEHEMOTH and the giants of the trash TESTAMENT.
HEAVEN SHALL BURN
In 2020, the straight edge band HEAVEN SHALL BURN released the double Of Truth and Sacrifice – an album with 19 socially engaged songs and a duration of almost 100 minutes, which the technical Germans can’t wait to play as much live as possible. HSB is preparing for a very intensive 2021, which includes SLIPKNOT support in Plovdiv on July 21.
BEHEMOTH
The extreme Polish band with 30 years of history and for some – scandalous vocalist and leader Nergal, remains among the favorites of the Bulgarian audience and confirmed its participation in HILLS OF ROCK 2022 on the day, headlinerd by MERCYFUL FATE – July 22. After re-signing a contract with Nuclear Blast earlier this year, BEHEMOTH have already announced a new album in December, which the Poles will present in Bulgaria.
TESTAMENT
For decades, American thrash metals TESTAMENT have stood firm and steadfast on the world music scene. Their latest album, released in 2020, Titans Of Creation, is another proof that they can be relied on: for nimble trashar solos, thunder drums, but also for captivating melodies with uncompromising live effect. TESTAMENT board the HILLS OF ROCK Main Stage on July 23rd.
